Old Queens Lose to West Virginia, 6-1
|
West Virginia Sherpas starter Quincy Griffin pitched well against the Rutgers Old Queens at Sherpas Ballpark, leading his team to a win, 6-1. Griffin picked up the win for West Virginia, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-4. The Sherpas improved to 13-26.
Gonzalo Martínez had a big 3-run home run for the Sherpas in the bottom of the seventh inning. With West Virginia leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Manny Crespo and swatted a home run to right. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Sherpas ahead, 6-0.
"Enjoyed this one," Griffin told the West Virginia Herald. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
