Pittsburgh Downed, 7-6, by Sherpas
|
The West Virginia Sherpas weathered an outstanding game by Pittsburgh left fielder Steve Patton to topple the Cathedrals, 7-6. Patton went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win belonged to Shawn Floyd in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Lanny Hickok took the loss for Pittsburgh. Blaine Jenkins locked down his 8th save.
West Virginia used the timely hitting of Bill Thornton to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Sherpas on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll build on this win," said Thornton.
The Sherpas win now puts them at 12-25.
