The Villanova Starbursts needed 11 innings to beat the Rice Puddings, 6-2, at Puddings Ballpark. The win was due in part to right fielder James Torres, who was 2 for 4 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Chris Owen claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record stands at 1-1. The Starbursts are now 24-13, while the Puddings fall to 21-16.
Torres had a game-changing double in the top of the 11th. On a 1-2 slider from Gary Graham, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Starbursts a 3-2 lead. It was the 9th double of the year for Torres.
"There's a warrior mentality with this team," said Starbursts manager Bill Hill.
