Purdue got a big-time effort from pitcher Eric Saunders, but it wasn't enough to keep the Iowa Archers from winning the game, 4-3. Saunders threw 7.0 innings of 1-hit ball for the losing team. Tristan Park got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. The second-place Archers improved to 22-12.
Iowa used a clutch hit from Jon Hamm to get the win. The second baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Archers ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
In postgame remarks, Hamm hailed his team's "mettle."
