Atkinson Earns Praise as Pride Topple Sea Dawgs, 6-3
|
The Penn State Pride stopped the East Carolina Sea Dawgs, 6-3, behind an impressive performance from Mark Atkinson. The 21-year old third baseman made life miserable for East Carolina pitching. He belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Lonnie Hubbard, the winning pitcher, is now 5-0. He went 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, while fanning 4 and walking 1. Tom Morrison earned his 1st save, after closing out the game.
Atkinson had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a first pitch fastball from Charles Shelton, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Pride a 3-1 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Atkinson.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Atkinson told the Penn State Chronicle.
Penn State has won 4 straight games.
