Late Rally by Chiefs Locks Up 3-0 Win
|
Both offenses were relatively subdued at Sherpas Ballpark. Fortunately for the Illinois Chiefs, though, Dean Pearson was able to deliver in the clutch. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, to lead his team past the West Virginia Sherpas, 3-0. The save went to Rick Hillock, number 4 for him. The loss makes West Virginia 7-22.
Pearson had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-2 cutter from Bob Monroe, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Pearson.
Afterward, West Virginia manager Raúl Vega said: "We've hit a rough patch."
