The USC Travelers withstood an impressive performance by Washington State catcher Geoffrey Dawson to defeat the Palouse Knights, 9-7, at Ballpark of Washington State. Dawson went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was Jason Sherman. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. Dave Boucher was called on to finish, recording his 6th save.

Chip Powers came through with a big-time hit for USC. The center fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 9-7. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Whenever I help the team," said Powers, "it sort of justifies my place on the roster."

USC is 9-21 and Washington State, with the loss, 12-18.
