Cathedrals Win, Now 14-13
|
The Pittsburgh Cathedrals downed the UAB Dragons, 5-1, at Alabama-Birmingham Grounds. Stellar pitching by Guillermo Piña had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is rated as the 68th best prospect by BNN, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winning pitcher was Piña, now 1-3. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. With the win, Pittsburgh upped its record to 14-13.
Clarence Stephens was 2 for 4 with 2 singles against the Dragons. In the top of the first inning, he reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run, putting Pittsburgh in front, 1-0.
"The chili dogs will taste better tonight after this win," said the ever-candid Stephens.
