Marshall Wins, 4-3
|
Stanford third baseman Rick Washington had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Washington went 4 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, even as Marshall beat the Axe, 4-3. Marshall reliever Fernando Valdés snagged the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jorge Soto shouldered the loss. Ed Nelson collected save number 5.
Marshall won the game in part because of António Montés. The first baseman ripped a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the McConaugheys ahead, 4-3. For the game, Montés had 1 double and 1 home run in 3 at-bats.
Montés attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
Marshall sits in third place in the American Heartland Conference at 17-10.
