Starbursts Turn Back Red Dawns, 3-1
|
Starting pitcher Gordon O'Neil gave the Villanova Starbursts a rock-solid effort. The New York native helped his team defeat the Michigan Red Dawns, 3-1, at Starbursts Ballpark. Chris Owen was called on to finish, recording his 8th save. The second-place Starbursts now sit at 17-11.
James Torres, who is tied for 4th in the USCBA COL with a 1.245 OPS, took Michigan hurler Chris Burke deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Starbursts on top, 2-0. In all, Torres had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Do what you're good at," said Villanova manager Bill Hill. "That's all I ask of the team."
