The Shin Seiki Evas beat the Kalamazoo Badgers, 4-2, at Portage Park. The Evas got a fine performance from right fielder Yosai Otani, who went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Johnny Arthur, who went 6.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 5-1. John Sharp closed the door for Shin Seiki, picking up his 10th save of the year.
Otani had a key at-bat for Shin Seiki in the top of the first. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and gave Shin Seiki an early 2-0 lead.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Otani.
The first-place Evas go to 28-17.
