Chiefs Hold Off Persians, 1-0
|
John Richardson pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Michigan State Persians, despite Richardson's fine outing, dropped a 1-0 decision to the Illinois Chiefs at Chiefs Ballpark. Rick Hillock picked up his 3rd save of the season. The Chiefs are now 8-14.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Chiefs had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when catcher Ed Pierce hit a run-scoring single. The single came off John Richardson and made the score 1-0, Chiefs. Pierce went 1 for 3.
Said Michigan State manager José Díaz: "We weren't able to do much."
