Washington State Absorbs 5-3 Loss to Washington
|
The Washington Montlake Malamutes defeated the Washington State Palouse Knights, 5-3, in United States Collegiate Baseball Association action at Ballpark of Washington State. Washington pitcher Chris Ryan had a standout performance. Washington, now 12-10, holds down third place in the Western 10 Conference.
Geoffrey Claus had a big 2-run home run for the Montlake Malamutes in the top of the fifth inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 19-year old left-handed pitcher Tony Hernández and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Montlake Malamutes on top, 3-0.
Claus called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
