Gerald Klein never let UAB get something going. The Michigan State right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Persians to a 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Klein, now 2-0. He tossed 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4. Mark Bowman finished to wrap up his 7th save.
Reece Lamond was 1 for 3 with a walk for Michigan State. The 20-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Roger Boswell. It was his 1st RBI of the season.
Lamond attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
UAB's current losing streak is now 5 games.
