Kaisers Edged, 5-2, by Central Florida
|
The St. John's Kaisers got a sterling performance from pitcher Jimmy Taylor, but the Central Florida Wicked Witches still prevailed, 5-2. Taylor threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. Javier Guerrero, now 1-1, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 1. Bill Ferguson earned the save for Central Florida, his 2nd.
Central Florida used the clutch hitting of José Rocha to snag the win. The pinch hitter drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Wicked Witches ahead, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a crucial one.
"Banging out wins is what it's all about," said Rocha.
The Wicked Witches win now puts them at 3-9.
