The Houston Shastas defeated the Northwestern Purple Haze, 5-4. Right Fielder Ricky Rutledge deserved a large share of the credit. Rutledge went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 for the Shastas. Patrick McCabe notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Rod Walker closed it out for his 5th save.

Houston needed the clutch hitting of Gary Christian to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Shastas on top, 5-4. For the game, Christian had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"We're on quite a roll right now," said Rutledge.

Houston is now 8-0.
