Washington Excels in 6-5 Stanford Win
|
The Stanford Axe topped the Illinois Chiefs, 6-5, at Axe Ballpark. Stanford third baseman Rick Washington was a spark plug for the offense. He was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3. Dave Carter closed it out for Stanford, earning his 2nd save. Illinois drops to 4-3.
George Plummer had a big 3-run home run for the Axe in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Stanford trailing 5-3 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a curveball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Shane Posey and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Axe on top, 6-5.
"I keep finding places to plunk down base hits," said Washington.
