The Northwestern Purple Haze stopped the Washington Montlake Malamutes, 6-1, behind an impressive performance from Deron Lawson. The 21-year old right fielder made life miserable for Washington pitching. He went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Manny Marrero got the save, the 1st for him this season. With the loss, Washington falls to 2-1.
Early in the game, Lawson had a 2-run home run for Northwestern. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Purple Haze on top, 2-0.
"The key is not trying to do too much," said Lawson.
