Axe Get Gritty, 3-2 Win
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Stanford Axe and the Notre Dame Evangelists, pitcher Ben Janssen was the difference between victory and defeat. The Stanford right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Axe win. Glenn King, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. The loss drops Notre Dame to 0-2.
Stanford used the timely hitting of Tom Wilson to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Axe on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Axe manager Sam Harvey raved about Janssen after the game. "I thought Ben was 'lights out.'"
