Rain could not dampen the pregame excitement of Neo-Tokyo fans. But the subsequent loss, and a disappointing one at that, to the Bears had to.

The Bakersfield Bears torpedoed the Neo-Tokyo Akira at Neo-Tokyo Grounds. The final score was 12-1, Bakersfield. Doug Knox went 3-for-5 for the winning team. The 'W' lifts Bakersfield's record to 13-26.

Bakersfield used a big swing from Don Mangin to get the win. The first baseman walloped a grand slam home run in the top of the second inning to put the Bears up, 5-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it changed the outcome.

"They beat us like the proverbial rented mule," said losing manager David Bell.
