Coqui Chop Down Bureaucrats, 7-2
|
San Juan and Arlington took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The San Juan Coqui beat the Arlington Bureaucrats, 7-2, at PRTC Stadium. José Martínez went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The former first round draft pick was a menace to Arlington all day. Dean Spargo, now 1-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Peter Massey wrapped it up, recording his 3rd save.
Juan Borges had a big 2-run double for the Coqui in the bottom of the fifth inning. With San Juan trailing 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from former first round draft pick Donnie Wheeler and swatted a double to right. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Coqui ahead, 3-2.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Martínez.
San Juan is now 20-17.
