Fishermen Come Up Short at Charleston, 3-2
|
Charleston Statesmen starter Robinson Fernández was in the groove. He led his team to a win over the Gloucester Fishermen, 3-2. The winner was Fernández. He threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Jorge Rojas. Cameron Auchmulty got credit for the save for Charleston. It was his 3rd of the year.
Koryusai Shiroi had a big run-scoring triple for the Statesmen in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Charleston leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a knuckleball from Jorge Rojas, who is tied for 4th in the IL in quality starts with 7, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Statesmen ahead, 3-1.
"When their pitchers are leaving stuff over the heart of the plate, we're not missing it," said Charleston manager Luis Salars.
Charleston is now 19-19.
