The Reno Zephyrs defeated the Crystal Lake Sandgnats, 9-8. Doing his part was first baseman Pablo Ortíz, who was 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Reno pitcher Andrés Pérez earned the win, hiking his record to 2-0. Noritada Akiyama suffered the loss. Anthony Soame nailed down his 11th save.

Reno took advantage of an error in the top of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 8-8, when Iván Martínez hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Zephyrs in front, 9-8.

Martínez told reporters after the game: "Close wins always feel extra good."

The second-place Zephyrs bumped their record to 19-15.
