Hitmen Edged by Claymores, 6-4
|
At Mercer County Waterfront Park, the New Jersey Hitmen and Scottish Claymores were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The New Jersey Hitmen got a superb performance from pitcher Chris Pate, but the Scottish Claymores still won the game, 6-4. Pate threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball. The winner in relief was Masanobu Agano. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. He now owns a record of 4-0. Ángel Reyna finished the game for Scottish and earned his 1st save.
Jack Thompson came through with a big-time hit for Scottish. The catcher smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 6-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Scottish manager Germán Hernández said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
The first-place Claymores improved to 21-12.
