In a low-scoring contest between the Edmonton Mall Ratz and the Laval Islanders, Shojiro Abukara, who is tied for 2nd in the PCAL in quality starts with 5, proved to be the difference. The Edmonton left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-0 Mall Ratz win. Abukara, now 3-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The loss drops Laval to 18-10.

Brian Taylor had a direct impact on the outcome. Taylor contributed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put Edmonton up, 2-0.

"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Edmonton manager Ramón Arroyo.
