The Edmonton Mall Ratz got a superb performance from pitcher Fred Gross, but the Calgary Stampede still won the game, 4-3. Gross threw 6.0 innings of 1-hit ball. Tony Chávez, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The loss drops Edmonton to 5-5.
Calgary went up, 4-3, on Augusto Hernández's 3rd double of the season. The 2-run double, which Hernández hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Edmonton pitcher Stephen Wood muttering to himself.
"When you win, you always have confidence," said Calgary skipper Errol Grey. "Nobody likes to lose. Losing is a downer. That's how we look at it. It's always good to win."
