The Youngstown Thunder faced a tough opponent in Monterey pitcher Brady Mateo, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Monterey Grounds by a final score of 4-3. Mateo went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Reliever Luis Peña picked up the win. His record improves to 6-1. Chris Harris, who is tied for 8th in the ATAL in holds with 8, took the loss. Youngstown, at 66-73, sits in 5th place in the Atlantic Alliance North.

Youngstown used the timely hitting of Hong-bo Zhang to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Thunder on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Zhang.
