Coqui Score Late, Clip Lions, 3-2
|
The San Juan Coqui beat the Amsterdam Lions, 3-2, in 13 innings. San Juan pitcher and Santa Fé, Cuba, native Vicente Díaz led the way. San Juan reliever Peter Massey picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Armando Sánchez was tagged with the loss. The defeat makes Amsterdam 14-13.
San Juan used the timely hitting of Gerald Contaldo to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Coqui on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," Contaldo told the San Juan Gazette.
