In a low-scoring contest between the Liverpool Beatles and the Inverness Highlanders, James Johnson was the X factor. The Liverpool right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. The winning pitcher was Johnson, now 4-4. He tossed 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. The Beatles improved their record to 28-22 by beating Inverness.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Beatles had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when catcher Katsumoto Tanaka hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Antony Batticelli and made the score 3-0, Beatles. Tanaka went 1 for 2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Inverness manager Chad Fountain. "But we decided not to take it."
