Loggerdoggers Lose Contest, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Monterey Sea Lions and the Beaufort Loggerdoggers, 20-year old right-handed pitcher Brady Mateo proved to be the difference. The Monterey right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Sea Lions win. Mateo, now 2-3, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. With the win over Beaufort, the Sea Lions improved to 21-12.
Brooks Thomas had a big 2-run home run for the Sea Lions in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Monterey leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Júlio Barrera, who is tied for 7th in the ATAL in strikeouts with 39, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Sea Lions on top, 3-0.
In postgame remarks, Thomas said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
