Malts Pull Out Late-Game Win, 4-3
|
The Madison Malts scored a tight, 4-3 win versus the Bakersfield Bears at The Oaks at Aera Field. Madison pitcher Brett Purkis held his own in the contest. Bob Burns, who finished 5th in the IL in saves with 43 in 2033, was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Héctor Cruz. Miguel Árias earned save number 4 this season.
Hang-ki Fu, who won the Wunderkind Award in 2038, had a direct impact on the outcome. Fu contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Madison up, 4-3.
"Chalk one up for the good guys," said Fu. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."
The win takes Madison to 9-8.
