Ghosts, Evas Play 10 to Settle Game 1, Niihama-shi Now Leads Series 1-0

At 40, Carlos Garza knows he may not have many playoff appearances left, so he was determined to make it memorable. Mission accomplished.
The Niihama-shi Ghosts first baseman went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 to help his club get past the Shin Seiki Evas, 6-4, in Game 1 of the Wild Card at Genesis Park. With the win, Niihama-shi takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.
Niihama-shi used a timely hit from Esteban Rodríguez to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Ghosts ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"I'm just looking to see the ball, hit the ball," said Garza.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Genesis Park in Nagoya.
