Late Rally by Oilers Locks Up 5-3 Win
|
Devils Ballpark was the site of a competitive game between the Sacramento Deltas and Long Beach Oilers.
The Sacramento Deltas could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Martin Allen into a win. Instead, the Long Beach Oilers prevailed, 5-3. Allen threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball. Senzo Matsuo earned the save for Long Beach, his 1st of the year.
Long Beach used the timely hitting of Garrett Chambers to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Oilers on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Chambers told a Long Beach Bulletin reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
With the loss, Sacramento sinks to 1-1.
