Starbursts Clip Pride, 2-1, in R2 Contest
|
In a crucial game, the Villanova Starbursts put on their best show, beating the Penn State Pride by a final score of 2-1. Tim Hooper threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. Villanova and Penn State are now tied at 2 wins apiece in the best-of-7 affair.
Villanova used the timely hitting of Tony Castro to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Starbursts on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Castro said afterward that "winning, obviously, is the main objective."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Penn State Grounds in State College.
