DeSoto Central HS Takes 2-1 Lead in Round 2
|
With third baseman Artie Hughes leading the charge, the DeSoto Central HS Panthers got a road win over the Blanchard HS Ligers, 4-2, in Game 3 of the Round 2. Hughes was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 at Ligers Ballpark to help DeSoto Central HS take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Had Greg Reed not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Reed hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Panthers.
"We haven't forgotten how long this series might be, but 2-1 is a heck of a lot better than 1-2," Hughes said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ligers Ballpark in Blanchard.
