The Round 2 got off to a quiet start, with the host DeSoto Central HS Panthers taking a low-scoring, 3-0 win over the Blanchard HS Ligers. DeSoto Central HS left-hander Justin Smith was marvelous at DeSoto Central Grounds. The Panthers now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

David Fitzpatrick had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for DeSoto Central HS. He came through with a run-scoring single to put DeSoto Central HS in front, 2-0.

"Being in first place now is good," said Fitzpatrick. "Being in first at the end of the season is better. That's our goal."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at DeSoto Central Grounds in Southaven.
