Padres Running Away With R2 After 3-2 Victory
|
The 18-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the ETH Zurich Physicists worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Fouad Martins seemed like a risky move for the Physicists, but it was one of the few things that went right at ETH Accelerator Field. Martins tossed 6.2 solid innings, but it was all for naught after ETH Zurich dropped a 3-2 decision. With the win, Pontificia Universidad took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 Round 2.
Ángel Martínez drove in one run for Pontificia Universidad . With one out and the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, Martínez had a clutch at-bat. Facing ETH Zurich hurler Ulin Hess, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Padres a 3-2 lead.
"We're going to have to play flawless baseball from here on out," ETH Zurich manager Joe Silver said. "Which, let's face it, we haven't been doing lately."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at ETH Accelerator Field in Zurich.
