Pontificia Universidad Pins 4-0 Loss on University of Sydney

Behind the big bat of designated hitter Ricardo Mercado, the Pontificia Universidad Padres have opened up a healthy early lead in the Round 3. The Padres topped the University of Sydney Wallabies, 4-0, at Pointers Ballpark in Game 2, and now hold a 2-0 edge in the best-of-7 series. Mercado went 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch to power Pontificia Universidad to victory.
In the bottom of the fourth, Pontificia Universidad left fielder António Maldonado had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Maldonado stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 2-0, Pontificia Universidad . For the game, he went 1 for 5.
Pontificia Universidad manager Jeff Summers praised his team's "energy."
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Sydney Cricket Grounds in Sydney.
