The Manchester Maulers turned back the Hartford Harpoon, 4-3, at Mack Stadium. David Simmons, in particular, had a fine performance. He slugged 2 home runs. Reliever Masami Kamihara picked up the win. His record improves to 4-0. Jeff Lucas took the loss. The win makes Manchester 49-73.
Manchester used the clutch hitting of Juan Cruz to snag the win. The center fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Maulers ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
Manchester manager Oliver Robinson praised his team's "businesslike approach."
