Wallabies Move on to Round 2
|
The Round 1 may not have lived up to the expectation that it would be a dogfight that would go the distance. The University of Sydney Wallabies, however, are not complaining.
The Wallabies were plenty happy to have wrapped up the series early and to have knocked out the Hosei University Avocat to advance to the Round 2.
University of Sydney won the final game by a 5-4 count at Sydney Cricket Grounds and the series 4-1.
Wallabies right fielder Luigi Rutgers was named series MVP, as he hit .350 with a .381 on-base percentage. He added 2 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 5 runs.
"It's not going to be the last time Hosei University makes it to the playoffs, so it's sure a nice feeling to put them out this year," Rutgers said. "We just need to keep this going and take it day by day."
The University of Sydney Wallabies don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Outback State University Crocs - Taiwan Tech University Typhoon series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
