Almost There: University of Sydney On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 3-2 Win
|
The University of Sydney Wallabies moved to within one game of the Round 2, downing the visiting Hosei University Avocat at Sydney Cricket Grounds by a score of 3-2. Wallabies right-hander Declan Wilson had a strong outing in which he threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Wallabies a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Round 1.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Wallabies had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when right fielder Luigi Rutgers hit a 2-run double. The double came off Ichizo Matsushita and made the score 3-0, Wallabies. Rutgers was 2-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"The competition leap this year was tough to adjust to and I feel like there has been another jump in the playoffs," said Rutgers, a rookie this season. "You're only playing the best now and everyone has time to rest and prepare for you."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sydney Cricket Grounds in Sydney.
