The Lodi HS Devils have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Mankato West HS Reds, winning, 8-7, at Lodi Grounds. Devils second baseman Joe Johnson was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2. The win cuts the deficit facing the Devils to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Round 1.

Fred Pierce drew 3 walks in 5 plate appearances against the Reds. With the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run that put Lodi HS in front, 8-7.

"It was our day today," Pierce told the Lodi HS Times. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
