Thunderhawks Top Myrmidon, 3-1, to Begin R1
|
The Tumwater HS Thunderhawks faced a tough opponent in De La Salle HS Myrmidon pitcher Thomas Conner, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Round 1, which they now lead 1-0. The Thunderhawks won, 3-1, at Thunderhawk Field, despite the Myrmidon getting a strong start from right-hander Conner, who went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs.
Pedro Gómez hit a 2-run home run off Octávio García in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Thunderhawks ahead, 2-1. In addition to the homer, Gómez had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
Gómez called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Thunderhawk Field in Tumwater.
