Codgers Deal Borealis 5-3 Loss
|
The Palm Springs Codgers picked up a win at Northern Lights Park, knocking off the Aurora Borealis, 5-3. Starting pitcher Takashi Yamamoto played a key role in the triumph. Yamamoto, now 9-9, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Bob Miles finished to wrap up his 33rd save.
The Codgers got a big at-bat from second baseman Jorge Fernández. For the game, Fernández was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 18th home run of the season gave Palm Springs a 2-0 lead.
"Takashi gets on the mound and he competes and that's what you want," said Palm Springs manager Bob Sullivan.
The loss makes Aurora 73-45.
