Bears Top Zephyrs, 1-0
|
Bakersfield turned a good performance from starting pitcher Jorge Gutiérrez into a 1-0 triumph over the Reno Zephyrs at The Oaks at Aera Field. With the win, Bakersfield has a record of 41-75. Reno falls to 58-59.
The Zephyrs had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Bears going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old catcher Frits Loeve came to the plate. Loeve hit a run-scoring double on a 1-0 fastball from Reno hurler Tony Day. It was Loeve's 3rd double of the year.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Loeve.
