Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Rio Rancho HS Goats and Snow Canyon HS Yeti.
Snow Canyon HS had no answer for Rio Rancho HS Goats starter Alex Cole, who flummoxed Yeti hitters as the Goats cruised to victory, 6-1. Cole, now 2-2, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing 1 run.
Rio Rancho HS designated hitter Chris Cruz contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 35th hit of the season and put the Goats ahead, 2-1.
"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Cole.
Rio Rancho HS is now 14-18. Snow Canyon HS is 15-17.
