Evas Lose to Kalamazoo, 7-5
|
The Kalamazoo Badgers beat the Shin Seiki Evas, 7-5. Kalamazoo pitcher and La Mata, Dominican Republic, native Martín Hernández led the way. Hernández, the winner, moves to 4-9. He threw 7 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 6 walks. Jesús Carlos wrapped it up, recording his 16th save.
The Badgers got a big hit from third baseman Jochen Sommer. Facing Shin Seiki pitcher Mike Wood in the top of the eighth, Sommer pounded a 2-run double to center. His 8th double of the season put the Badgers ahead, 7-1.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Hernández.
The last-place Badgers go to 34-78.
