Calzones of Laredo Win, 6-5, in 11
|
The San Antonio Calzones of Laredo needed 11 innings to beat the Amsterdam Lions, 6-5, at Elysian Fields. James Caldwell, for one, had a fine performance. He went 4 for 6 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. San Antonio reliever Sebastiaan de Roode picked up the win, while Ramón Martínez took the loss for Amsterdam. The 5th-place Lions dropped to 48-63.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 11th. With one out, Caldwell hit a fastball from Ramón Martínez for a run-scoring single. The Calzones of Laredo, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This place was rocking at the end," Caldwell said.
