Fernández Excels, But Decepticons Win
|
Jaime Fernández did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Charlotte Amalie Batey from being beaten, 5-4, to the Santo Domingo Decepticons at Batey Ballpark. Fernández belted 3 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored three times. Clarence O'Brien got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Lúcio Young, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 8th save.
Santo Domingo used the timely hitting of Luis Delgado to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Decepticons on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said Charlotte Amalie manager Dale Mitchell.
The Decepticons go to 28-25, putting them second in the Intercontinental Baseball Coalition Paradise League.
