Statesmen Spill Maulers, 3-1
|
In a well-pitched game between the Charleston Statesmen and the Manchester Maulers, pitcher Ding-bong Zhu was fantastic. The Charleston right-hander helped his team secure the win, 3-1. Zhu yielded no runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. His record improves to 11-5. Peter Phillips collected save number 10.
Graham Manning had a big solo home run for the Statesmen in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Charleston leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from Bartolo Muñóz, who is tied for 10th in the IL in strikeouts with 128, and punished it. The result was his 17th home run of the season, which put the Statesmen on top, 2-0.
"Everything felt in sync," said Zhu.
Charleston is third in the Imperial League Dixie with a record of 62-51.
